Pastor Hannah Huh offers programs dedicated to helping people be good stewards of their bodies and to have a healthy body image. These programs are not of the “skinny-for-Jesus” stripe. Instead, these programs will educate people as to how God has formed us physically, how the gospel compels us to view and care for our bodies, and the practical things we can do to maintain our physical health. The physical is one of the most neglected areas in the church, but one in which many people often struggle. And as we mentioned, our physical health is intimately tied to and affects the emotional, mental and spiritual parts of our being. Therefore, NMCC seeks to bring light, truth, and grace to our physical lives as well. Pastor Hannah is certified as a pilates and sport yoga instructor, personal fitness trainer (NESTA), and is in the process of receiving a nutritional counseling (AADP) certification.
We have often heard that because yoga is tied to eastern spirituality, Christians should not participate. However, we have found this objection is rooted in misguided thinking. Just as Christians have retooled rock music, martial arts, technology and so forth to bring God glory, we believe there are elements of yoga that can also be redeemed. In fact, the apostle Paul and the bible teach that we are to redeem the cultures of the world, not throw them out. The particular type of yoga we practice is sport yoga which only delves in the physical aspects of the routines.
