Culture & Ethnicity

When we become children of God, our distinctiveness (i.e. culture, ethnicity) is not wiped out; it is celebrated. We all contribute to the diversity of the body of Christ, and under him we have unity. Unfortunately, Western culture has set the tone for much of Christianity, and, consequently, many cultural attributes of other people groups has been lost or diluted. It is time we recognize this about the global Christian movement--we must reclaim the gifts Christ has given to the people of the world, and celebrate them to the glory of God.

Genesis 1:26-27

26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

27 So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them. (ESV)

Revelation 7:9-10

After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10 and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” (ESV)
