Tithes & Offerings

A Spiritual Discipline & Partnership

Tithing is a spiritual discipline where we offer to God a minimum of 10% of our income. We offer this portion of our “riches” as a means of responding to the grace that has been shown us. In essence, the tithe is a token representing that, in fact, the totality of all that we have it actually a gift from God—we are merely stewards of the things that God has entrusted into our hands, and we are simply giving back a portion of what is God’s. Through this discipline we are continually mindful of the Source of our life and wealth, our greed and covetousness and materialism is curbed, we are encouraged to be generous as God has been generous, and we strive to be faithful and gracious not only with our money but with all that we possess (e.g. talents, time, hospitality, etc.).

Tithing is also a means of participating in the building and advancing God’s Kingdom of love and truth. Why does God need our money? people ask. He doesn’t. Through the tithe, we are given the privilege of partnering with God and showing grace to those around us. To be a part of God’s eternal Kingdom work is indeed a powerful calling and joy!

Lastly, biblically, the 10% is to act as a floor for our giving. As the gospel teaches us, the entirety of one’s life is God’s, and we are called to strive to give all that we can. Therefore, those who are blessed with much are called to bless much.

“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.” – Malachi 3:10
